The new Whistler Skiers Chapel is a multi-denominational place of worship and reflection, set on the Lower Franz ski run on Whistler Mountain. Conceived as two intersecting, light-filled wooden volumes, the design replaces the original A-frame chapel built in 1967, one of the first skiers' chapels in Canada.
The building takes its formal cues from the rugged topography of the surrounding mountains. The main sanctuary is sculpted to frame views down the valley, while a clerestory opens to capture the morning light. The result is a carefully crafted form, fully integrated into its alpine setting, that offers a contemporary interpretation of the traditional place of worship.
